Asking for your help

Hey guys, I know it’s been awhile. It seems like the holidays always brings out this funk in me. It was a great Christmas, with my mom coming to visit but of course, issues with LJ’s insurance and equipment have got me down. Here’s a note I’ve been sending everyone else:

Dear Friends and Family, as you may (or may not) know, my first son, LJ, has Cerebral Palsy. This greatly affects his muscle tone and use of extremities. He cannot sit, walk, or crawl unassisted. We had borrowed a stander to help him develop his leg muscles and hip sockets, so when the day comes for him to crawl and walk, he’ll be ready, physically. It also greatly improved his head control, which is essential to doing anything. He used it twice a day for 45 min each. This also helped his digestive tract, greatly, which in turn helped him eat more, which means he was gaining weight that he is now losing. The stander, besides therapy, was the only physical activity he really got because of his lack of mobility. It would also hopefully prevent a painful surgery in the future.
Then the person we borrowed the stander from took it back and we’ve seen the drastic changes it’s made with him. We’ve searched and searched to borrow another or buy a used one to no avail. Insurance will not pay for it. Our only choice now is to buy one, but it is VERY expensive. I’m asking you to check out this website: http://www.adaptivemall.com/lewisj.html and consider making a donation. The money will never go directly to us, just gather till we have enough for them to send it to us. I’ve picked a stander that will grow with LJ for awhile and be best suited for him.
The only thing I don’t like about the site is the lowest donation you can make is $25. I know this is a lot for many, so I ask you to consider sending this to your friends and family and perhaps come together to make enough for this minimum donation. If you are unable to donate, I just ask that you send this to all your friends, family, and co-workers. LJ has already been without the stander for 2 months. We know, given the chance, he can succeed.
This is our last option. I have checked out many other places and even gone on boards where other parents are selling equipment, but even if they happen to post the right stander to sell, we wouldn’t we able to afford it. Even if they gave it to us, shipping would be horrendous (although I’ve yet to see one for free).
Please, please, please… even if you can’t afford to donate, please share this site with friends and family.
Thank you for listening and please contact me with any questions.
